Emmet hung over the side of the grand hunting boat, the waves causing the boat to sway and bob. He wore a sickened face, mumbling to himself. "uhgg… Bartly… do you have the Necklace?" he groaned, as Bartly played with the strap on his bag. "nope, I thought you did." Emmet jumped, and spun around. "no way, we lost it?!" Bartly paused.

"Relax, it's got to be somewhere, check your pockets."

"I have no pockets!" Emmet yelled, looking around hoping to spot it.

"Alright everyone, gather round!"

a woman called, as the groups ran to go see her. The woman went by Lynn, and had dark purple hair, and teal eyes, and brown skin. She wore a long black coat, and sported a small fairy just like the announcer.  The six groups surrounded her, as she pulled out a Necklace. "does everyone have their siren bounding Necklaces?" everyone pulled their necklace from their pocket, but Emmet and Bartly couldn't find theirs, and Emmet began to panic. Tierney walked up next to them, holding their Necklace. Emmet let out the breath he'd been holding in, and smiled. "good job, Tierney." Tierney rolled his eyes, looking away. "good, now when we pull the Sirens aboard you all have to go and find one you want to work with. It won't be easy because they squirm and will try to bite you and scratch and fight you off, you just have to show dominance and tie them up well," The woman told them, walking around the circle. "once you've tied up your Siren, you have to put the necklace around her and make sure it stays on." Emmet bit his lip, knowing how hard this would be. Lynn passed by him, and smirked. "don't look so scared, child. You have to have guts to do this." She looked him in the eyes, as Emmet backed up. "Sirens look like angels, and they make you feel sorry for them. But the minute you let your guard down, they won't hesitate to kill you." Emmet clenched his fists, as the woman walked off. His lip quivered again, as he looked down at his feet. "I don't feel sorry for them at all," Emmet whispered. Bartly looked at the men standing behind the teams, holding a giant net in their hands as they dragged it toward the edge of the boat. "stand by your tanks, everyone," Lynn said, pointing to the tanks lined up on the other side of the deck, each one just big enough to fit a mermaid. The teams ran to their tanks, and grabbed on to the handles to keep from sliding around on the wet boat deck, that was now almost flooded. Everyone wore rain coats and gloves to keep from getting soaked, but the rain was picking up and showed no signs of letting go.

Emmet and Bartly held on to the handles for dear life, but Tierney was in a sprinting stance, ready to be the first one to get to the mermaids. The men with the net tossed it over in to the water, and Emmet heard something from a far. It sounded like a loud scream, and it frightened him to his core. He gulped and watched as the boat sped faster, and the rope holding the net began to straighten as if the net was filling up with something. "it's a big catch today, we must of caught them migrating!" one of the men said. "good, we'll have tons to choose from today," Lynn smirked, holding on to the boat. Soon enough, the net was being pulled back out of the water, and set on to the boat deck. A big pile of seaweed and small fish splattered all over and slid about, as even more water filled the deck. Emmet gasped, his eyes spotting something shiny. It was a mermaid tail peeking out from between the net rope, flopping up and down. The tale look like ruffles on a dress, golden and un touched. It was unlike anything he'd ever seen, it was beautiful. Tierney lunged forward after them, as the net was open up for the teams to find their mermaid. "this one's too young," one of them said. "throw 'er back!"

Emmet blinked, and ran off as well, Bartly by his side. "this one's so ugly! She must be old." Another team member said, looking down a horrified shaking elder mermaid. Laying amongst the rest was Nilofar, her eyes were wide open in shock, her adrenaline rushing. She looked next to her and rolled over, seeing the horrible scene unfold. Mermaids were being yanked up and inspected like pieces of meat. Small toddler mermaids were crying for their mothers and tossed back in to the sea. The elder mermaids who were too frail to escape or fight back were crying and chanting old prayers to their god. Nilofar was so furious and so in shock she couldn't even cry out, she could only lay there gasping for air. She looked next to her and saw a young mermaid like herself, only a bit more plump. She was scared too, and reached for Nilofar, who took her hand and held it tightly, desperate to feel safe. Nilofar looked in to her eyes, and could see how blinded by fear she was.

Nilofar looked to her and squeezed her hand, as if promising to save her, but the mermaid was yanked up by her upper arm, as the trainers studied her. "she's too fat. She won't get far in battle." A girl said coldly. The mermaid trembled, and looked back to Nilofar in fear. Nilofar growled, and slid her body toward them, hissing as loud as she could. She grabbed the girl's ankle and bit in to it, making her drop the other mermaid. "somebody do something!" the girl cried. "its got me!" the girl kicked Nilofar in the face, sending her sliding across the deck with force. Other mermaids were attacking as well, scratching them with their nails, biting them with needle sharp teeth, knocking the air from them with their tails. Tierney saw what Nilofar had done, and narrowed his eyes at her. Emmet was running toward the mermaids, and tried to help Tierney find one for their team. The boat suddenly shifted and caused Emmet to lose footing, as his feet fell from under him, he began to slide across the deck. When he tried to get back up, he fell once more, and landed on something slimy. Nilofar was under him, trying to stay awake after the blow to head by the girl who kicked her. Emmet froze, as if face to face with a hungry lion, he couldn't move. Nilofar was still fighting as she regained her sight, and slapped Emmet across the face, knocking his glasses off. Bartly ran up to Emmet and Nilofar, and wrapped a few ropes around her as she squirmed. Emmet panicked, looking for his glasses.

"my Glasses!" Bartly struggled to hold Nilofar down, wrapping his arms around her. "Wow, this one's got fire in her belly! I m-may not be able to hold her!" he grunted. Tierney stomped over to the two, and bent down to wrap the necklace around Nilofar. "you belong to us now, devil." He glared at Nilofar, as she tensed up, unable to move. She looked him in the eyes with hatred; she wanted to kill them for what they had done to her people. They had kidnapped all of these innocent mermaids and she was the devil? Emmet found his glasses and put them back on, and spun around to see Bartly and Tierney hovering over the mermaid who he had fallen on. He walked up to them, and looked down at Nilofar. "this is ours now?" Emmet asked, trying to catch his breath.

"of course! Isn't she a beauty?" Bartly smiled in excitement. Nilofar laid limp in the ropes, staring up at the three. "good job, boys." Lynn stood behind them, smiling. "she's a strong looking one, she's got to be 15 or 16, that's the age they start getting feisty." Lynn told them. "no kidding, she knocked my glasses off." Emmet crossed his arms at Nilofar, giving her a slight glare. Bartly smiled and ran his hand down her tail. "She isn't missing any scales, she's so pretty I almost hate to make her fight." Nilofar slapped his back with her fins, glaring at him. "I think she's repulsive." Tierney added. "alright everyone, if you have your sirens then put them in the tank so they can't get away!" Emmet looked down at Nilofar and helped Bartly lift her up, carrying her to the tank. Nilofar struggled, but with no use. She was caught, the blue necklace on her was like a shock collar, and if she had intentions of running away she would be pulled back. Nilofar now a prisoner, a pet, a beast in a tank. These humans had no plans on letting her go. She relaxed, and let them slip her in to the tank, as she sunk down into it, closing her eyes. Emmet looked down at Nilofar, and frowned.

Do I feel sorry for her?
